Dansville’s Art and Music Extravaganza is Saturday, Aug. 6, and organizers are looking for event sponsors.


The goals of the festival are:




To market the central business district’s galleries, stores, restaurants, businesses, Dansville Public Library, the Children’s Library Annex, Star Theatre and Clara Barton Chapter #1 American Red Cross.

To create an atmosphere that celebrates the arts and encourages people of all ages to enjoy the simple pleasures of a summer Saturday in Dansville’s Historic Business District.

To showcase the wide variety of talented area musicians and performers. Area high school and college students have been invited to participate.

To provide local artists and craftsmen a venue to market their wares.

Once again sidewalks will host artists and crafters on three blocks of Main Street, from Perine Street to Chestnut Street. Tables and tents will be set up from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Our restaurants offer a “taste of Dansville” with a wide variety of delicious fare. The historic Star Theatre will have shows at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. (It is one of 300 theaters of its kind in operation in the U.S.) Performances will be from 10 a.m to 10 p.m. in a special concert area. Ossian Street will be closed from Elizabeth Street to Main Street. Dancers, soloists, bands from bluegrass, country, jazz, rock and roll to the Big Band sound of an evening concert.


This event will be sponsored by the Dansville Chamber of Commerce Promotions and Marketing Committee and the Genesee Valley Council on the Arts, in cooperation with the Village of Dansville.


Classical Music has been added to the genre as well as a morning of music and storytelling at the Children’s Library Annex. There is a great variety of local talent to be showcased.


To expand on musical performances, organizers are seeking donations. Donations can be dropped off at the Chamber Office or mailed to 126 Main St., Dansville, NY 14437. Checks should ne payable to Dansville Chamber of Commerce for the Art and Music Extravaganza.
