BARRY WOOD: 'Grammar' can be 'glamorous' -- I had never thought of “grammar” as “glamorous” — and I still don’t — but the two words are closely related. Of course, back when they were traveling in the same circles, they didn’t mean quite what they do now. Rockford Register Star (Ill.)

BEGINNER GARDENERS: Do's and don'ts for beginner gardeners  -- “For beginning gardeners, I suggest starting out with easy-to-grow plants, such as lettuce, spinach, radishes, peppers, green beans and tomatoes,” Fishburn says. “Herbs are also easy to grow and are a great addition to any garden.” Diane Schlindwein/ The State Journal-Register (Ill.)

JIM HILLIBISH: Fish fries are a fine way to fast -- The definition of fasting meant denial of one coveted food — meat (Acts 15). This is part of the battle we all fight, versus our stomachs. We fast (diet) to tell our stomachs who is boss; hence the custom of meatless Fridays, especially during Lent. Canton (Ohio) Repository

FRIENDS WITH KIDS REVIEW: Movie review: Intriguing 'Friends With Kids' takes a wrong turn into a sitcom ending - “Friends with Kids” takes a cursory look at how six relatively intelligent BFFs struggle to find the pH balance between romantic and parental love. By Al Alexander, The Patriot Ledger.

SALMON FISHING REVIEW: Movie review: 'Salmon Fishing in the Yemen' an impossible dream never realized - To say this movie requires an utter suspension of disbelief is a vast understatement. The only thing more obvious is where this trifling, predictable story is headed. And the longer it takes its sweet time to get there, the more you refuse to take the bait. By Al Alexander, The Patriot Ledger.

TALK ABOUT KEVIN REVIEW: Movie review: 'We Need to Talk About Kevin' is dark and disturbing - I’ve held off as long as I can in my obligation to discuss “We Need to Talk About Kevin.” I’ve watched it three times since Thanksgiving, yet still can’t wrap my head around a movie that I love but cannot recommend. By Al Alexander, The Patriot Ledger.

THOUSAND WORDS REVIEW: Movie review: Silence isn't golden for Eddie Murphy in 'Thousand Words' - It won’t take me more than an adjective and an acronym to describe Eddie Murphy’s latest failed attempt at comedy, “A Thousand Words.” Here is what I emailed a friend: “OMG. Horrible.” By Dana Barbuto, The Patriot Ledger.

MOVIE REVIEW: Indie memoir 'Being Flynn' is a dud -- Pity poor Nick Flynn. As a boy, he was forced to grow up without a father on the mean and dirty streets of … Scituate, Mass. Scituate? When did the quaint little town by the sea become a facsimile for the ’hood? We all should be so disadvantaged. Al Alexander/ For the Patriot Ledger (Mass.)

PHILIP MADDOCKS: Advertisers stunned that Rush Limbaugh would say something inappropriate - Even after abruptly suspending their sponsorship of the "The Rush Limbaugh Show,” many advertisers say they remain stunned that the broadcast’s host would stray so far from his usual line of measured, respectful discourse. JARED OLAR: March of the parricides - Perhaps one of the more vivid ways to characterize the past three and half centuries in the history of Western culture is as multiple successive acts of metaphorical parricide. In several important ways, the political philosophy called liberalism is a child of Christianity, albeit a wayward or illegitimate child. By that I mean that many elements of liberalism were drawn and isolated from the ancient patrimony of Christian doctrine and culture. But liberalism attacked and killed its parent. ERIC P BLOOM: Cause mapping - A great root cause analysis tool for managers - This week’s column is my third column of five on root cause analysis tools for managers. In the first column I explained root cause analysis as the process of trying to discover the source (or sources) of a specific problem. I then went on to say that in the four weeks that followed I would describe a specific root cause analysis in depth. Last week I explained The Five Whys, and this week I’ll be discussing Root Cause Mapping (RCM). By Eric P. Bloom, GHNS.
