Mark Hopkins reported that “once again on Sunday, the Springwater Trails hiking group worried about thunderstorms prior to their hike at the South end of Hemlock Lake.

Fortunately, the weather cleared up by 4 p.m. and 10 hikers and 9 kayakers enjoyed the beauty of the lake and forest. The hikers followed Willow Oak Trail from the Johnson Hill Road trailhead, crossing one waterfall and enjoying the view toward the lake. The kayakers headed north and across a nearly still Hemlock Lake and enjoyed seeing a bald eagle flying overhead and the fish jumping out of the water.

Next week the group will travel to Fairport and explore a portion of the Crescent Trail. This is a hiking trail that circles the town of Perinton and was built in cooperation with the town and residents of that town. It is the model for the Springwater Trail.

Please check the website www.springwatertrails.org for more information including details on carpooling to Fairport.
