2012 marks the 40th year the Grand Marshal Nancy Forsythe has been an active Girl Scout leader and 34 years a coach of a trophy winning GS canoe team she created.
In 1959 Nancy entered Troop 104, the first Intermediate troop in Saugerties (now known as Cadettes) and remained a member for five years. Following college, Nancy became leader of Tr. 104 and a Senior troop for many years. When a leader was needed for her daughter's Brownie troop, Nancy gave up the Cadette troop , became a Brownie leader and followed all 12 Brownies through to the newest level of Girl Scouts, Ambassador.

Besides Girl Scouts, Nancy has been a volunteer instructor for the Red Cross, teaching Water Safety, Lifeguarding, Swimming lessons, CPR and First Aid classes. She is President of the Trustees of the Saugerties United Methodist Church and a recent volunteer at the Food Pantry.
Raised in Saugerties, she is a 1968 Saugerties High School graduate. Nancy obtained a BS in Secondary Education-Mathematics at SUNY Plattsburgh and a MS in Computer Science from SUNY Albany . She taught math in the junior high, was a programmer for IBM for 25 years and currently teaches math, part time, at SUNY Ulster.
She has been married to her husband John for 32 years. They are parents of a daughter, Sara, who graduated from SHS last week.
Three Division Marshals have also been named for the 2012 July 4th Parade in Saugerties. They are Bob Sircusano, Cliff Tienken and Bob “Mousie” Wolven. Congratulations to all.
