The following residents have birthdays this week and we wish them much happiness and many special memories in the year ahead:

Jan. 23: Margaret Westurn,

Jan. 25: Bones Grey

Jan 26: Ezra Lee Parker

One couple is celebrating another anniversary this week and to them we wish many blessings this year: Norris Roy Rowley and Carol Rose Miller, No. 59. What a wonderful tribute to share so many years together as best friends.

The Spaghetti Dinner & Music Jam at the Websters Crossing UMC is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 27. The building opens at 3 p.m. for music and jamming and that continues until 9:30 p.m. Dinner will be served between 4:30 and 7 p.m. by donation. Take-outs are available. This is the first dinner of the year and we hope to see many of you there.

Springwater American Legion Post 905 thanks all of you who took the time to donate socks, hand wipes, foot powder and/or made monetary donations for shipping expenses, for our soldiers serving in Afghanistan. Once the donation boxes are counted and readied for shipping, I will have a count of the pairs of socks collected in this massive outreach program.

Dean Faklis reports, “Round 2 of the Springwater Hiking Group got underway Sunday at Norb Buckley’s Farm on Monkey Run in the eastern part of Springwater. Thirty-one hikers came out with boots, snowshoes and skis and explored some of the highest points in our county. Views of Honeoye Lake and the surrounding hillsides were spectacular from up in the snow-covered farm fields. Afterwards, the Buckleys hosted a fine after-hike social with chili, soups and a multitude of appetizers and drinks. It was a full house, warm and toasty with a lot of laughter. Many new folks attended today and there are nine more hikes remaining in Round 2. Schedules, maps and photos are now available on the Town of Springwater’s website under Parks and Recreation. For further information on upcoming hikes or to get on the mailing list, please e-mail springwaterparksandtrails@yahoo.com.”

Next week’s hike explores High Tor and the Italy Valley with an after-hike social at the Middletown Tavern.

For those of you who are grousing over the bone-chilling arctic-like winter weather, there are less than 70 days until spring arrives. Stay warm and enjoy some of the beauty of the fresh-fallen snow as it hangs in the branches of the evergreen trees. Soon enough we will be planting spring flowers and getting our lawnmowers ready to cut grass.

Have a great week.
