Kysor, Hine, Welch inducted into Dansville Athletics Wall of Fame

DANSVILLE — The Dansville community recently honored a local trio that strove for and achieved excellence during their days representing Dansville High School.

On Saturday, Dec. 11, as part of the Dansville Rotary Boys Basketball Tournament, three DHS Alumni were honored as the newest members of the Dansville Athletics Wall of Fame.

The ceremony was held between the varsity consolation and championship games. Inductees were introduced to the crowd and walked the length of the court before receiving a members only jacket and a personal frame of their accolades. Inductees proceeded into the Hall of Fame area and hung their personal plaques on the honorary wall.

Chairman of the Athletic Wall of Fame Committee, Dave Moodie, stated: "Dansville Athletics has a proud tradition of talented athletes and coaches, fierce competitors and championship levels of achievement, both individually and as teams. The members of this year’s induction class exemplify the standard of excellence that is required to become a Mustang Wall of Fame Member."

Tatter Kysor Graduated from DHS in 1998 and was an outstanding wrestler. He finished with a career record of 141 wins and only 45 losses (a school record until 2018). Tatter was an LCAA and Section V Champion in 1997 and 1998. He earned multiple tournament championships, was a 2x recipient of the most outstanding wrestler award and a 3x league all star. The LCAA sportsmanship award is named in his honor. Tatter dedicated earning this award to his brother, Ben Kysor.

Tatter stated, “Without Ben’s guidance, none of it would have ever happened.”

Steve Hine Graduated from DHS in 2008. He was a three-sport athlete at Dansville High School and competed at the Varsity level for 15 seasons. Steve competed in the New York State Championships in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track. During the 2006 cross country season, Steve earned a 1st place finish at the league championship race, finished in 8th place at the state championship meet, and was selected as 1st team all-state. In 2007, Steve placed 1st at the Section V, Class C cross country championship race, finished in 4th place at the state championship meet, qualified for NYS Federation, was selected as 1st team All Greater Rochester, and was the recipient of the Section V Cross Country Sportsmanship Award. In 2008, Steve finished 1st in the 3200 at the outdoor track league championship race, 1st at Sectionals (400, 800, 1600 and 3200), 1st in the steeplechase at the Section V race and 4th in the steeplechase at the state championship meet.

Nicole Welch graduated from DHS in 2003. Nicole was a three-sport athlete. In cross country, she was a 4x Varsity D recipient, 4x sectional qualifier, member of the Section V, Class C championship team, and competed at the NYSPHSAA Cross Country State Championships. Nicole swam at the varsity level for 5 years. She was a 5x LCAA all star, selected as the LCAA  female MVP, a 5x Section V qualifier, 3x team MVP, 2x captain, and selected as Rookie of the Year. At the time of her graduation, Nicole held all girls’ swimming records at DHS except for diving. In outdoor track, Nicole competed at the varsity level for 4 years. During that time, she qualified twice for the meet of champions and was a 4x Section V qualifier. Nicole earned the Dedicated Junior Female Athlete Award and the Most Outstanding Senior Female Athlete Award. She was selected as a national nominee for the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award and went on to compete at the collegiate level.
