Rittenhouse named Empire 8 Rookie of the Week at AU

Dansville native Grace Rittenhouse scored 20 points at Keuka College

ALFRED — Alfred University freshman and Dansville native Grace Rittenhouse of the women’s basketball team was named the Empire 8 Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week, as made official in an announcement by Associate Commissioner Joe Venniro.

Rittenhouse may have tied for a game-high 20 points at Keuka College, but overall, statistically, led both the Saxons and Wolves in the Alfred University road win as she had a game-high 11 rebounds, a game-high three steals, a game-high 3-point % (3-for-4 or 0.750) and tied for game-high 3-pointers made.

GRACE RITTENHOUSE

It was Rittenhouse’s first collegiate double-double as she hit career-highs across the board. She was 7-of-11 from the floor (0.636) and a perfect, 3-for-3 from the free throw line. She pulled down a career-best six offensive rebounds and tied her best with five defensive rebounds.

She joined men’s lacrosse’s Justin Mosher (Hilton) in Empire 8 honors as he was named the Men’s Lacrosse Co-Player of the Week on Monday. Rittenhouse and the Saxons will next host Keuka College on Wednesday, March 17 at 7 p.m. in the Terry S. Galanis Family Arena.

Gartland named AMCC Pitcher of the Week

ALFRED — Alfred State senior left-handed pitcher AJ Gartland (Irondequoit) was named the Allegany Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Pitcher of the Week Monday. 

Gartland led the Pioneers to an opening day 9-2 win at Wells College. He tossed six innings of four-hit ball. He allowed two unearned runs while striking out ten Wells batters, finishing with the 0.00 ERA.

Junior outfielder Justin LoTemple (Greece Athena) was listed on the Best of the Rest for the AMCC Player of the Week after hitting .500 with a homer and three RBI. Jace Cappellini (Pitt-Greensburg) was named the AMCC Player of the Week.

The blue & gold are slated to be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to St. John Fisher. They also have doubleheaders at Houghton (Saturday) and at Cortland (Sunday) on the schedule.
