FILLMORE — It was a clash of the titans Wednesday night in the Section V, Class D1 championship game.

The immovable object vs. the unstoppable force.

Two defending Section V champions, two 2019 state semifinalists.

Undefeated Fillmore, the No. 1 seed who went to the state semifinals in Class D last year, matching up against a one-loss Keshequa team, which marched to the state semifinals in Class C a year ago.

Only one could stand alone as the 2020 Section V, Class D1 champion.

The game remained scoreless into the second half, but Keshequa caught lightning in a bottle.

The Indians struck for two scores to take command and eventually head home to Nunda with a 2-0 victory and the Class D1 championship trophy in tow.

After pouring in five goals in a semifinals win over Alfred-Almond, Riley Rease was the star again and netted what proved to be the game-winner on his 31st goal of the season, second in all of Section V behind only East Rochester's Chuck Domm with 45. Reese Powers assisted on the score.

Jordon Luther later gave the Indians an insurance goal. Powers assisted on that one as well, giving him 26 on the year. That mark is also second in Section V behind only the 29 assists of East Rochester's Russell Domm. Coincidentally, East Rochester is the only team to hand Keshequa a defeat this season, a 3-1 road setback on Oct. 24. The Indians haven't lost since.

Fillmore didn't make it easy; every other Keshequa win this season was by at least three goals, many of them by much more. Keshequa was able to double-up Fillmore in the shot department, 9-4. The Indians also had a commanding 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.

The Indians finish the year with a 16-1 record and a second straight Section V title for coach Ron Macomber Jr.. Keshequa graduates a strong group of seniors including Rease (31 goals, 17 assists), Jacob Schiano (20 goals, 14 assists), Aidan Wood (15 goals, 10 assists), Luther (13 goals, 12 assists), Cesar Battle (goal, 2 assists), Peter Betts (goal, assist), Trey Learn (2 goals, 4 assists), Ryan Thayer (2 goals, assist), Hunter Zangerle (goal, assist) and keeper Jacob Cobin.

Fillmore wraps up its own stellar season 14-1, graduating Isaiah Voss (12 goals, 4 assists), Mason Cool (8 goals, 7 assists), Zach Herring (3 goals, 3 assists) and keeper Dylan Valentine.
