Free COVID-19 rapid tests and masks to be handed out Friday at the Corning Fire Department
Rapid COVID-19 test kits and KN-95 masks will be handed out to first-come, first-serve residents Friday at the Corning Fire Department.
City Manager Mark Ryckman said the city is assisting Steuben County with the distribution of KN-95 masks and rapid COVID-19 test kits at noon Friday at the Corning Fire Department, 2 Corning Boulevard, while supplies last.
Given the limited number of kits and masks available, the city anticipates supplies will be depleted rapidly, Ryckman said. Hundreds of free rapid test kits were taken quickly Wednesday morning at Southern Tier Library system libraries.
Interested individuals may pick these items up at the rear of the Corning Fire Department using the Craumer Drive entrance.
“With the current resurgence of the COVID virus, and with it the importance of widely available testing and protective masks, the City of Corning is fortunate to be playing a part in offering those solutions,” said City Mayor Bill Boland. “This is a time for us all to recommit to all the steps we know by now that slow the spread of the virus. Protecting ourselves, and others, should be foremost in our decisions and actions.”
“We are appreciative of Steuben County’s efforts to make these masks and test kits available for our Fire Department to distribute,” Ryckman said.
People who test positive to COVID-19 should contact the Steuben County Public Health Department by completing an online form at https://hipaa.jotform.com/213616404172044
Steuben County officials will need you to upload a photo of your positive test, so don’t throw your test kit away before you take a photo. If you test positive and don’t have a way to send a picture, self-isolate in accordance with CDC guidelines.
“The Corning Fire Department is proud to continue its efforts to limit the spread of COVID in our community,” Corning Fire Chief Brad Davies said.
The City of Hornell is expected to receive KN-95 masks and rapid COVID-19 test kits in the near future those items will be handed out at the Hornell Fire Department. No date has yet been determined.
