Dansville grad caps stellar career at Brockport

BROCKPORT — Dansville grad and The College at Brockport senior linebacker Alex West capped off his stellar collegiate career by earning D3football.com All-Region First Team in a release by the highly popular Division III football website.

West is making his second straight appearance on an All-Region Team. He built an impressive collegiate resume as he was named to the all-conference first team for the third straight season this past year. As one of Brockport's defensive captains, he finished the regular season with a league best 9.0 sacks. He totaled seven solo sacks to go along with four assisted sacks. His average of 1.5 tackles for a loss per game ranks 45th nationally. He led the team with 60 total tackles and his 18.5 tackles for a loss were a career-best. He capped his career ranked second on the College's all-time list with 25.5 career sacks.

Headed into the 2019 season West was named a preseason All-American by D3football.com. He finished his career with 192 career tackles to go along with 35.0 tackles for a loss. West had a dominant stretch midway through the conference schedule where he posted 6.5 sacks in a three game stretch.

That’s not the only postseason honor for West. The Little Rock Touchdown Club and Wright Lindsey Jennings announced the nominees for the seventh annual 2019 Cliff Harris Award, which is presented to the nation's top small college defensive player.

West landed on the Division III nomination list.

A prestigious selection committee made up of former college and pro football greats will select the Cliff Harris Award winner. In addition to the Cliff Harris Award overall winner, the top vote getter from each division will also be announced.

The Cliff Harris Award winner will be honored at the Little Rock Touchdown Club's annual awards banquet on Jan. 9, 2020. The winner will receive the $3,000 Cliff Harris Award trophy presented by Cliff Harris along with featured speaker Archie Griffen.

West’s Brockport team made its third straight NCAA appearance this Fall and wrapped up its 2019 campaign with a 9-3 overall record. The Golden Eagles have won three straight Empire 8 Conference titles and they won nine of their last 11 games of the season as they earned the conference's automatic NCAA bid for the third straight year. Brockport joined elite territory this season, becoming just the second program in the 18 year history of the Empire 8 to win three consecutive conference crowns.

Also for Brockport, freshman defensive back Raylens Boutin were selected to the All-East Region First Team Defense, while offensive guard Luke Lodini earned All-East Region First Team Offense. Boutin joined West with a Cliff Harris Award nomination.
