Baseball team on the move from Wellsville to Dansville
DANSVILLE — After attending the fall meeting regarding bringing a New York State Collegiate Baseball League (NYCBL) team to Dansville, I was very excited needless to say.
The franchise that "had been" the Wellsville Nitros was headed our way.
Owner and President of the team, Steven Ackley, had commented about the name, and that "in the future" if there was a need to "change" the name, that would be fine with him.
I'm not so sure if Steve realized how quickly the "future" would come. It was announced recently that the name of the new N.Y.C.B.L. team had been officially changed to the Dansville Gliders. The new moniker incorporates the area's aviation history, with cross-references to the "soaring" of the Golden Eagle (Wayland-Cohocton's mascot).
The new logo pictures utilizes a red, black, gold & white scheme with an Eagle's head with a baseball in its beak.
The new Dansville Gliders will begin play in June of 2020. Host families are being sought. An informational meeting is set for Wednesday, November 6th at 7 p.m. at the Dansville High School Library. Some of the topics to be covered is the need for housing of the players as well as game schedule, as well as discussion about Babcock Park where they will play home games.
