BATH — Dansville hit the road on Friday night and handed host Haverling a 28-6 setback in Bath.
The win put the Mustangs at the break-even mark at 2-2 heading into their homecoming test this Friday night against an unbeaten Attica Blue Devils team.
Dansville skipper Rich Welch noted, “We played very well tonight and managed to really come together in the second half both offensively and defensively. That's the way we would like to play the rest of the season, but Attica will be a real test for us."
The game started on a nice note for the red & black as they took the opening kick-off and drove it down field to score on their first possession of the contest. Tanner Dettman crossed the goal line on a 2-yard keeper putting Dansville in front. Bryce Quibell split the uprights on the conversion and that's the way it would stand at the half.
Both teams got on the board in the third quarter as Dansville got things started by recovering an onsides kick. On that possession, the Mustangs would put together a long sustained drive that resulted in Tanner Dettman going over again, this time from the 1 yard line for a touchdown. Bryce Quibell converted making the score 14-0.
Haverling came right back and put a scoring drive together that was capped by a 4-yard TD run by senior quarterback Kaden Adams. The conversion was no good.
It seemed like the Mustangs were saving the best for last, as they scored the last two TDs of the game in the final eight minutes of play. Quarterback Tanner Dettman called his own number and raced 50 yards to the end zone for a score. Bryce Quibell booted the PAT adding to Dansville's lead.
The Mustangs put together one final drive to wrap things up when Dettmen went over from the 1 yard line to seal a rare 28-6 win for Dansville in Bath.
“These kids have shown what we're made of,” Welch said. “We had a tough go of it in the first two weeks, but look, they've bounced back, established some confidence along the way and have evened their record. We'd like to stay on that type of upswing going into the Attica game for our homecoming."
Dettman finished with 21 carries for 159 yards and four touchdowns. Ryan Carnevale had 22 carries for 93 yards. Billy Barrett had a catch for seven yards and Bryce Quibell went 4-for-4 on PATs.
John Wilkinson led the defense with 10 tackles, followed by Billy Barrett (8 tackles), Bryce Quibell (6 tackles), Tanner Dettman (5 tackles, INT), Shane Crandall (5 tackles) and Hayden Meyers (3 tackles). Elliot Mapes and Gus Swyers added 2 tackles, while JJ Crissy and Holdyn Freeman had one.
Bath heads to the Elsie Tripp Sports Complex in Cohocton to take on Wayland-Cohocton this Friday in a 7:30 p.m. start during the Fall Foliage Festival.
