ROCHESTER — It was another productive trip to the city for the Dansville Indoor Track & Field team during the Sectional meet on Saturday (Feb. 16) at RIT.
Coach Eileen McMaster noted that another record was broken, a pair of athletes are headed off to the state qualifiers, and eight team members came away with personal best performances.
All in all, she noted, “It was a great night for the Mustangs at this year's Sectionals!"
Jade Simons, for the second time in her last two outings, has broken the school record in the Weight Throw. On Saturday she finished 3rd, but broke her previous school record with a toss of 33-1.5. That ranks her 2nd in Livingston County as well. She, along with Alex Rodriguez (1600m), who placed 2nd at Sectionals (1st in Livingston County) will be off to the State Qualifiers.
Other highlights included Summer Foster taking 4 seconds off or her time (5:40) in the 1500m, as she placed 5th in the Sectionals. Dansville’s 1500m racewalker Kendra Evans finished 6th while dropping 13 seconds off of her time (9:28). Eighth grader Maggie Bacon shed 12 seconds off her time (12:12) in the 3000m as she finished 7th the the Sectional meet. Brooke Coombs threw a 25-3.5 which is her personal best in the Weight Throw.
The 4x800 relay team ran its best time (12:05) which is a 15 second improvement over the previous best for Summer Foster, Rachel Drake, Sofia Rodriguez and Emma Beardsley. Finally, the boys 4x200 relay squad ran a personal best of 1:50. That team consists of Alex Rodriguez and Evan Pruonto.
