ROCHESTER - Franklin High of Rochester defeated Wellsville in three close sets, 25-21, 25-22, 25-21 Thursday night.
Freshman Marley Adams had four kills, two blocks and two aces for Wellsville (7-8), while freshmen Kaylee Coleman (two aces) and Brooklyn Stisser each had three kills and Keara Ludu had two kills and three digs. Delayne Mattison had five assists.
"We came off an all-day tournament and a lot of games this week and it finally caught up with us," said Wellsville coach John Anderson. "We just didn't move our feet and get to balls we usually do. Plus, Franklin is a very athletic team and they dig well. We earned a split with them this year and made a lot of friendships."
Franklin and Wellsville played each other in baseball in the spring and have a date in boys' basketball this winter.
"When they came here, we did a taste of Wellsville complete with Texas Hot, Beef Haus and pasta," said Anderson. "They returned the favor by catering dinner and the kids all had a good time getting to know each other after the games."
Wellsville is at Allegany-Limestone next Thursday then hosts Fillmore Friday night for Senior Night.
