CICERO — Dansville is now home to a state champion.

Jacob Wadsworth claimed the New York State Division Two Pentathlon Championship as he competed on Friday, June 8th and Saturday, June 9th at the 2018 NYSPHSAA State Outdoor Track and Field Championship held at Cicero-North Syracuse High School.

Jacob finished in first place in the Division Two small school competition. He also finished in fifth place in Federation competition, which is the combination of all the large schools and small schools across New York State.

The pentathlon consists of five events - 100m high hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump, and 1500m run. Jacob earned a personal record in both the high jump and the 1500m run.

This meet represents the highest level of track and field competition across New York State. There are public schools as well as private schools in the meet.

"Thank you to Jacob for representing Dansville as an athlete and being a positive role model for younger Mustangs," said Dansville boys track and field coach Matt Quibell. "Congratulations to Jacob!"

Wadsworth wasn't the only local athlete competing at states.

Wayland-Cohocton’s Maggie McAllister also competed in the Division 2 finals. McAllister whipped around the track in the 400 hurdles. McAllister turned in a strong time of 1:06.45, good for ninth place overall in Division 2.
