ELMIRA - Elmira Notre Dame got past Watkins Glen 65-63 on Friday in an IAC boys basketball matchup.

The Crusaders got off to a fast start with a 24-11 lead after the first quarter.

"We forced a lot of turnovers and were able to get easy baskets," Elmira Notre Dame head coach Bill Hopkins said. "I thought we moved the basketball as well as we have all season (in the first quarter.)"

Watkins Glen cut the lead to 35-24 at the half, but The Crusaders responded with a 16-14 third quarter for a 51-37 advantage. Gary Raupers netted 14 points in the third for the Crusaders.

The Senecas caught fire in the fourth quarter, hitting four 3-pointers that dwindled END's lead down to as little as just five.

The Crusaders hit their free-throws down the stretch to put the game on ice.

"I think might have let our guard down a little bit in the fourth quarter," said Hopkins. "Credit goes to watkins glen, they are a good team."

Raupers led Elmira Notre Dame with 35 points and Cole Clark added 12 points.

Michael Doane had 15 points for the Senecas including five 3-pointers.

Elmira Notre Dame improves to 9-5 with the win, while Watkins Glen falls to 6-5.

The Crusaders will travel to Edison next Friday in their next game.
