BELFAST — An eventful summer for the Bare Knuckle Boxing world continues in Allegany County on Saturday, July 9 with the 2016 Bare Knuckle Boxing Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
The 8th Annual Induction Day will be held at the Belfast Methodist Church near the Hall of Fame, site of the original training barns used by The Great John L. Sullivan to prepare for the last Bare Knuckle Boxing Championship of the World. Sullivan trained in Belfast for an epic 75-round brawl with Jack Kilrain that took place in 1889 in Richburg, Mississippi.
Founded by Scott R. Burt in 2009, it’s the only Hall of Fame dedicated to the Original Boxing Pioneers, the Bareknucklers. The induction ceremony will run from 10 a.m. to around 4 p.m. on July 9.
The day will start with a special USPS cancellation honoring this year’s inductees at the Belfast Post Office at 10 a.m., followed by a greeting of the townspeople until around 10:45 a.m.
A meet and greet at the Methodist Church will be followed by the Induction Brunch, including the ceremony, awards and even a fund-raising sale and auction.
A tour of the Hall of Fame will then be given by President Burt, and around 3 p.m. there will be a fist casting of the inductees at the local Bed & Breakfast. T-shirts, hats and various merchandise will be available for purchase throughout the day.
Attendees will get up close and personal with World Champion Bobby Gunn, American Champion Danny Batchelder, and author/fighter James Quinn McDough. All events are within walking distance of each other. The all-inclusive admission tickets are $55 each.
Go to www.bareknuckleboxinghalloffame.com for more information. You can simply Paypal the ticket price to SRBURT@AOL.COM and your tickets will be waiting for you at the door.
If you stick around until Sunday, the Hall of Fame party goes to the Pollywogg Holler Eco-Resort for a relaxing day of food and drink.
