Cameron D. Smith of San Francisco, Calif., died on May 12, 2020 following a brief illness. Cam was born in 1939 and was predeceased by his parents, Sylvester Smith and Helen Kleinhans; and his step-mother, Bette Smith.


Cam was a 1957 graduate of Dansville Central Schools. During high school, he played varsity football and participated in the Civilian Air Patrol. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy for 10 years as a marine electrician, including combat service in Viet Nam and service on the ice breaker USS Glacier in Antarctica during Operation Deep Freeze III. Between his Navy service and later jobs in Saigon and Bangkok, he saw a lot of the world. He also lived and worked in many different locations in the U.S. before settling in San Francisco and working in the shipyards there.


Cam is survived by his wife, Patricia Fry; his step-children, Maura and Daniel Ceccoli; his daughter, Nona Claypool; and his granddaughter, Annie Le Beaux. He is also survived by his siblings, Jim (Joan) Smith of Wayland; Don (Nilsa) Smith of Greece; and Karen (Steve) Zilora of Penfield; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
