DANSVILLE — Janine Yvonne Ullyette passed away, at the age of 61,  Feb. 23, 2017 from complications of Cystic Fibrosis in New York City.

 

Janine was born and raised in Dansville and lived in Brooklyn for almost 40 years.

 

She was known to many for her beautiful soprano voice, having taken her earliest voice lessons from her cousin Gloria McMaster of West Sparta. Janine performed and toured with the Gregg Smith Singers and the Norman Luboff Choir. She also sang with numerous professional choral groups, among them, Musica Sacra, New York Choral Artists and at the Bard Music Festival. She was a professional in several church choirs in the New York City area including Trinity Church on Wall Street, St. Jean Baptiste Roman Catholic Church, Church of the Ascension, Church of the Heavenly Rest, St. Matthews Church, First Presbyterian Church in Brooklyn Heights and Congregation Emanuel Synagogue of NYC.

 

She lived in Paris, France for three years where she worked as an au pair and sang with the American Church in Paris. Other employment included Administrative Assistant with the Special Litigation Unit of the Legal Aid Society and receptionist at the Sloan House YMCA for the School for International Educational Exchange.

 

Janine is survived by her partner Eric Guttormsen (Kea’au, HI), sister Laurel Ullyette (Donald Sanzotta) of Auburn, NY, nieces Shannon Harrington Mays (Dansville) and Meris Sanzotta (Washington D.C.), nephew Nikolas Sanzotta (Auburn, NY), her aunt, Mary McMaster Melenbacker (Springfield, VA), several cousins and two grandnephews. She was predeceased by her father, C. Wilson Ullyette (1997), mother, Jean McMaster Ullyette (1997); sisters, Susan Mary Ullyette (2007) and Sarah Ullyette Harrington (1996).

 

A memorial service will be held at Church of the Heavenly Rest in Manhattan in several weeks with a private family service in West Sparta later this summer. There will be no calling hours.
