Wayland/Clermont, FL, Herbert Roland Drum, age 87, passed away after a brief illness on Friday, March 25, 2016 at the Mike Conley Hospice House in Clermont, Florida.


Herb was born October 19, 1928, attended Patchinsville School on Route 21 and Wayland High School graduating in 1946. He married his high school sweetheart, Ardis Way, on August 15, 1947 at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Wayland. Herb made his life with Ardis in Wayland on the farm where he grew up. Herb also owned and operated Drum Trucking, Inc. Herb and Ardis with their family and many friends enjoyed bowling, square-dancing, snowmobiling, playing cards, and picnicking and water skiing at the family pond. While in Florida, he pitched horseshoes and in 1999 was Florida State Champion Senior Division.


Herb was predeceased by Ardis, by his parents Elmer & Nina (Schwingel) Drum; brothers, Donald and Robert Drum; sister, Harriet (Drum) Patterson; and brother-in-law, Vance Way.


Herb is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Helen (Drum) and Richard Mauro of Jacksonville, Florida. He is also survived by his children, Cynthia (Philip) Eckstrand of Wilmington, Delaware, Terry Drum of Lexington, Kentucky, and Gale (William) Strickland of Homestead, Florida; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren; sister-in-law Doris Way Lawhorn of Winter Haven, Florida and brother-in-law Les Patterson of Dansville.
