The Penn Yan and Dundee Central School Boards of Education have heard the preliminary plans for a combined football program to begin with the fall 2020 season, and more details are to come. Both boards have approved the merger of the football and cheerleading programs.

Board members learned more details at the March 18 Penn Yan School Board meeting and the March 19 Dundee School Board meeting.

Dundee Superintendent Kelly Houck explained the team name will be Penn Yan-Dundee football, and the team colors will be maroon and orange. Both the Mustang and Scotsman mascots will be used. Houck says these decisions were made after a series of surveys taken by players that gradually narrowed down the choices to three. The final survey led to the outcome.

Final schedules and coaching staff will be announced later this year.

In the fall of 2019, the modified and junior varsity teams merged.

The modified team used Dundee uniforms and equipment and the junior varsity team used Penn Yan uniforms and equipment. Penn Yan maintained its varsity squad and Dundee fielded an 8-man football team.

Penn Yan did not field a junior varsity team in 2018 or 2017. A team was planned for the 2016 season, but folded.

Around the same time, the Dundee and Penn Yan Junior Football programs combined.
