OSSIAN — Livingston County Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty has reported a snowmobile crash investigated by the Sheriff's Office.

On Sunday, March 1 at about 4:15 p.m., the Livingston County Emergency Communications Center (E-911) received a call reporting a snowmobile crash involving two riders in the area of Runyon Road, Town of Ossian. The preliminary investigation revealed that the snowmobile was being operated by Kirk Young, 39, along with a 16-year-old female rider.

The two were traveling in a westerly direction when a utility pole guide wire was struck, causing both riders to be ejected from the machine. The female passenger was transported to Noyes Hospital in Dansville, via ambulance, with minor injuries. Young was transported via LifeNet to Strong Hospital with injuries and is in stable condition. The preliminary investigation shows mechanical failure as a contributing factor to the crash.

The incident was investigated by members of the Sheriff's Office Patrol Division and Forensic Identification Unit, with the assistance of several Dispatchers in the Communications Bureau.

Additional emergency personnel from Livingston County EMS, Dansville Fire & EMS, along with LifeNet, provided care on scene.
