Motorist leaves Route 36, stops in precarious position
DANSVILLE — A motorist driving a Budget Truck Rental very nearly ran out of real estate Wednesday morning on Dansville Hill.
The truck left state Route 36 while traveling in the northbound lane entering Dansville. The truck made contact with an earth embankment and then the guardrail before coming to a stop as the hill narrowed, said Wayland-based State Police.
The accident report indicated speed was a factor as the truck was unable to slow down enough to make the curve. The truck left the road around 8:23 a.m. Wednesday morning, coming to rest before the hill drops off into the ravine below near Stony Brook State Park.
The impact and subsequent effort removing the truck damaged the guardrail. State Police said the Department of Transportation was contacted to make repairs. T&R Towing was tasked with getting the truck back on the road.
The property damage accident resulted in no injuries. The driver was out of the Buffalo area, police said. No tickets were included in the accident report.
A photo of the truck sitting on the wrong side of the guardrail circulated far and wide on social media, with many marveling at how the truck wound up in the precarious position.
