Bergen man killed in tractor trailer rollover

CALEDONIA — Livingston County Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty on Sunday reported a fatal crash investigated by the Sheriff’s Office.


On Dec. 20, at approximately 10:07 a.m. the Livingston County Emergency Communications Center (E-911) received a call for a tractor trailer roll over crash on Telephone Road (State Route 20) near the intersection of Avon-Caledonia Road (State Route 5).


The preliminary investigation revealed that the tractor trailer was traveling westbound on Avon-Caledonia Road and was turning onto Telephone Road when the tractor trailer left the roadway while making the turn and rolled over off the edge of the roadway into a small group of trees.


The operator of the tractor trailer, who had significant life threatening injuries, had to be extricated from the cab. Life saving measures were attempted but the operator was pronounced deceased at the scene.


The operator of the tractor trailer has been identified as Richard Scott Ishmael, 55, from Bergen.


The incident was investigated by members of the Sheriff’s Office Command Staff, Patrol Division, Criminal Investigations Division, Forensic Identification Unit, Commercial Vehicle Unit, and Drone Unit, with the assistance of several Dispatchers in the Communications Bureau.


Emergency personnel from with Caledonia Fire Department, Mumford Fire Department, Scottsville Fire Department, CHS Ambulance, Avon Police Department, and Caledonia Police Department were on scene.


The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.


“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Mr. Ishmael,” stated the Sheriff’s Office.
