Holiday events in Dansville kick off Saturday

DANSVILLE — One of the highlights of the entire calendar in Dansville is the holiday festival at year’s send.

Winter in the Village has been a major success for the community since the mid-1990s. It began as a way to bring the community closer together and remind them of the old-fashioned Christmas traditions.

On Saturday, Dec. 7 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., many will come out and enjoy the family-fun activities. It all starts with the Jingle Bells 5K at the Community Center at 8 a.m., Letters to Santa Claus from 9 a.m. to noon at the Post Office, Arts and Crafts at the North Dansville Town Hall from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Craft and Vendor Fair from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Dansville GCC, Polar Express shown free at 11 a.m. at Star Theater, Visit With Santa from noon to 3 p.m. at Dansville ArtWorks, Live Ice Sculpture Demo at 5:30 p.m., Santa Parade at 4:30 p.m., Fantasy of Lights at 5 p.m., and Live Nativity by St. Peter's Episcopal Church from 4 to 6 p.m., Wine Walk from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., Horse and Wagon rides from 5 to 8 p.m., Dansville Rotary Club giveaway from 5 p.m. until gone at Star Theater, Clara Barton Open House from 6 to 8 p.m., Holiday Crafts at the Dansville Library from 5 to 8 p.m,, and enjoy the store holiday decorations along the way.

There will, as always, be several ice sculptures to see on the corners of Main Street as people walk around the historic downtown. There will be plenty of holiday specials and deals at the local small businesses.

The Holiday Light Show by STL Productions has been a huge hit in the last couple of years and will make a comeback throughout the month.

Holiday Music at Genesee Valley Federal Credit Union will be live from 5 to 8:30 p.m. with the following bands: Smith and Smith, EBH Children's Chorus, Warsaw Barber Shop Chorus, Waylandaiers, and Connie and Henry.

Remember the reason for the festival has always been to bring friends and family out to historic downtown to remember the old-fashioned holiday spirit.
