DANSVILLE — In an effort to help formulate a five-year capital improvement plan for the Village of Dansville, Rochester-based engineering firm MRB Group and village officials are conducting a survey for village and nearby residents.
“The best time to voice your opinion on something like this is early in the process,” Matt Horn, director of municipal services for MRB Group explained.
“What can happen or has happened in other communities is when it’s time to develop a project, we’ll get a lot of feedback. By that time, it’s been in the plan for a year, the board has planned budgets around it, done some engineering around it, so I’d encourage folks, if you’re thinking about a project, or you’re thinking about an issue that the village needs to take a look at, now is the time.”
Because people who live in nearby townships still use village streets and parks, the Village is welcoming input from both village and non-village residents. Horn set up a booth in the town hall on Sept. 17 just prior to the village board meeting, and is planning on setting up another booth prior to next month’s meeting. About 10 area residents filled out survey forms that night, with other having filled out forms online.
The simple survey asks area residents to rate the condition of village streets, sidewalks, parks and playgrounds, water service, sewer service, stormwater and parking. The survey also asks respondents to list any other concerns they have regarding the condition of village facilities, equipment and infrastructure.
The survey will continue to be conducted for the next couple of months, with results being given to the village board late this year or early next year.
“What we want to do is tie up the planning piece ahead of the [village] budget,” Horn said, adding that the village budget has to be adopted by April 1.
“Thankfully, because we’re so familiar with the infrastructure, we have a lot of the technical assessments, so it’s really marrying those with community preference and going from there.”
