DANSVILLE — Dansville Public Library has announced it will participate in the American Library Association’s (ALA) Library Card Sign-up Month this September.

ALA, in an agreement with Disney and Pixar’s “Toy Story 4”, has created promotional materials for libraries using the characters Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Bo Peep and friends as library spokespersons. Children who enjoy Disney and Pixar productions will quickly identify their library card with these characters who have joined together in a delightful adventure to promote the value of a card.

Children’s Program Coordinator, Ms. Mary Ellen Arena, will host a unique craft event on Saturday, September 14 from 11 to 1 p.m. at the Library. Children of all ages can participate by creating their own special, wearable button in celebration of Library Card Sign-up Month. A library card is the #1 tool for lifelong learning. “Children who read succeed” has become a catch phrase for book distributors, librarians, and book sellers nationwide.

Currently, Dansville Public Library has a total of 4,100 registered borrowers, 1,004 of those are under the age of 18.

The Dansville Public Library, housed in the Saunders Family Library addition (2011) as well as the historic Shepard Memorial building (1824) at 200 Main Street, serves 10,145 people in the Dansville area and in the surrounding townships. With annual circulations in excess of 53,000, the Library is a community center dedicated to providing a gathering place for residents to explore, to meet, to learn and to relax.
