Balloon GLOW moved to Friday night

DANSVILLE — The New York State Festival of Balloons will be a little different this year with the hugely successful Balloon Glow now scheduled on Friday night.

This widely anticipated festival has been going strong for nearly 40 years in Dansville. It is one of the most important events the community looks forward to all year long. Funds raised during this event are divided among several non-for-profit organizations and presented to them later on. It draws in thousands of people from all over the world. It enriches the sky with many bright colorful hot air balloons from all over the country.

The Dansville Balloon Festival, or the New York State Festival of Balloons, as it is referred to now, will not have its Balloon Glow on Thursday night at Brae Burn. This has long been established as the kick-off event for the entire community to get up close to the balloons.

This year, the Balloon Glow will now be held on Friday at the airfield at dusk. This will allow more balloons to be able to participate in the event, and the hope is that more people who come for the actual festival will see the glow too.

Other than that, the festival will run much like it did last year with the events being closely similar.

The NYS Festival of Balloons runs from Aug. 30 to Sept. 2. There is a $5 day pass per person.
