HAMMOND — Stephen Earl Jacobs, age 76, of Hammond, NY, passed away on August 15th, 2019, after living a fiercely extraordinary life.

Stephen is survived by his loving wife, Rachel; his children, Russell (Susan) Jacobs and Brook (Jeff) Peters; and his grandchildren, Matthew Jacobs, Zachariah Howe, Elise McKenna Jacobs and Blake Johnson.

He is predeceased by a son, Kent Jacobs, and his siblings, David Jacobs and Joyce Tracy.

Stephen was born on November 16, 1942, in Hornell, NY, the son of Silas Jr. and Annabel Willitt Jacobs. He graduated from Dansville Central School and obtained an Associate’s degree from Paul Smith’s College. Stephen enlisted in the United States Army in 1964 and was honorably discharged in 1966. He married Rachel St. John on April 4, 2014. Stephen was a construction inspector for the U.S. Department of Defense beginning his career in the 1980’s, retiring in 2007.

Words cannot do justice to his story. Our lives were defined by him and his love. His passion for nature was unparalleled. Hunting and fishing made him happy and were a huge part of his life. After retirement, he spent time traveling with his wife (collecting a prodigious amount of souvenir shot glasses to commemorate each place they visited).

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Frary Funeral Home, Ogdensburg.
