GENESEO — Livingston County Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty Friday reported the arrest of a Mount Morris resident on robbery charges after an investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.

On July 16, at approximately 6:40 p.m., Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the YoBerry Frozen Yogurt store at the Genesee Valley Plaza in the Town of Geneseo for a reported robbery that had occurred. Witnesse reported that the suspect came into the store and when he approached the cashier, he threatened that he was armed and demanded cash from the register. The suspect reached over the counter and took approximately $350 in cash before fleeing the store.

Sheriff’s Deputies and Investigators began canvassing the area, conducting interviews and collecting video surveillance footage from the area.

On July 18, photos of the suspect were released to social media and several tips were received that potentially identified the suspect as 26-year-old Canin J. Hill from Mount Morris. Sheriff’s Investigators located Hill along with corroborating evidence at his residence in the Village of Mount Morris and he was taken into custody.

Hill was arrested and charged with third-degree robbery (class D Felony), petit larceny, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

Hill was turned over to Central Booking Deputies at the Livingston County Jail for processing and pre-arraignment detention. The District Attorney’s Office was contacted in regards to bail due to the felony level charge. It was recommended that Hill be held on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond. Hill was later arraigned at the Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Part at the Livingston County Jail before Town of Livonia Judge Margaret Linsner. The Judge did remand Hill to the custody of the Sheriff on the recommended bail of $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond.
