DANSVILLE — A new business has opened on Ossian Street that will customize T-shirts, mugs, cups, hats, koozies, and more.

KLS Creative Designs is owned and operated by childhood friends Nancy Nice and Karen Sheasley. Nice also owns and operates Custom Craft Signs with her nephew, Lucus Nice.

“We have a nice office where customers can come in and talk to us about what they want,” Nice said. “We make customized T-shirts, hats, mugs, cups, and koozies. They are of high quality and won’t come off in the laundry or dishwasher.”

The new office is located at 88 Ossian Street, and had been vacant for at least a decade. Nice said she and her friend were working out of a garage since January. All of the brand-new furniture came from Better Homes in Dansville.

A special gift had been waiting for Marian Crawford, who just turned 90 years old. Nice has been friends with her for a long time, and made her a special birthday mug.

Nice added that the company wants to work on patch-making in the near future. They have a new embroider machine to work on.

“No one does patches, so we want to work on making them soon,” she said. “We have a heating press machine that helps with the shirts and hats. We have a special machine for the mugs and cups. It is treated with a special coat, so that it won’t come off.”

A new business out of Cohocton called Station 26 ordered a whole bunch of shirts. Jack’s Place and Wayland Legion 5k were customers as well.

Nice added that they work on whatever the customer needs.

“We want quality work out there. I won’t put cheap signs out, so I am not going to do that with this business,” she said. “I got some inheritance from my mom, and used that to buy brand-new equipment to work on this. I am working with my childhood friend Karen.”

Nice said talking to customers face to face is the best way to get a good product out there. Nice has many years of art and design experience from the sign shop.

Sheasley said she has learned a lot from Nice since working with her in January. She has always been creative and into art herself.

“I have a lot of fun learning the business with Nancy,” she said. “I am an artist, and have always been very creative. This is a fun adventure. I love Dansville, and I have known Nancy all my life. We are more like sisters. I was gone for 30 years, and now that I am back I wanted to invest in the community.”

Sheasley added they plan on learning what the community wants, and working on the needs of the businesses.

"I grew up in Cummingsville. You had 15 moms at the park at all times watching out for the kids. Everyone knew each other. You grew up knowing to do for others,” she said. “We all came together as a community.”

Sheasley plans on bringing other creative art to the business, like light bulb ornaments and woodwork.
