DANSVILLE — Dansville High School will have a Scholastic Art Show that will showcase an important mural honoring Clara Barton.

On March 23 from noon to 4 p.m. the community will get its first look at the wall mural hanging in the cafeteria to honor Clara Barton, Angel of the Battlefield.

Greg McMaster, Dansville Central art department director, told Genesee Country Express that the art students have worked really hard on this project.

“They are working on this big project during class time,” he said. “Matt Buckholz brainstormed with the class what they could do to honor our local history. Clara Barton is important to our community’s story.”

The mural process began last school year in the Public Art elective, which meant students designed, projected, traced, and painted each panel of the mural.

There have been about 20 students that contributed to this project. This art show is put on by the Genesee Valley Council of Arts every year. However, this is the first time the art show is being held in Dansville.

The art show will feature students from all over the region. There will be drawings, paintings, ceramics, jewelry, fibers, sculptures, mixed media, printmaking and more. Dansville’s National Art Honor Society will have baked goods and small artwork for sale.
