DANSVILLE — Last year the country honored our Vietnam War Veterans for the first time in over five decades.
President Trump made March 29 Vietnam Veterans Appreciation Day in 2018. On March 30 the Dansville American Legion will hold its 2nd Annual Vietnam Veterans Appreciation Day from 1 to 3 p.m.
Kathy Nagle, Dansville Legion Auxiliary chaplain, invites all Vietnam War Veterans to this special event to share their stories. Anyone is invited to attend and show these brave men and women the appreciation they deserve.
“We had such a great turnout last year that we would like to continue this event,” she said. “Last year we had it on March 29, but this year we need to do it a day later. There is another event at the Legion on the 29th. We are hoping to have an even bigger turnout this year.”
Nagle said the Legion got a lot of good feedback about last year’s event.
“I hope they all come back this year,” she said. “This is the time of year a lot of our veterans are in Florida, so I hope they will be able to make it to the event this year.”
The event hopes to bring the veterans back together and honor their service to the country.
“When someone has gone through what they did, it is hard for them to talk about it,” Nagle said. “I just want this to be a nice get together for them.”
Nagle mentioned that if any of the veterans could bring some photos from that era, it would be great to see them at the event.
“I want to keep their stories alive,” she said. “There are a lot of veterans that are not with us anymore. They are getting to be among the last veterans we have to share their stories. It is sad that it took all this time for that part of our history to be recognized.”
Vietnam Veterans Appreciation Day on March 30 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Dansville American Legion located at 34 Elizabeth Street. Anyone is invited to come to this free event.
