DANSVILLE — A local mail carrier who had beaten Breast Cancer is fighting a new battle.
Sarah Connor had been diagnosed with Breast Cancer around Christmas 2017. Last year the community rallied to raise money for her chemotherapy. Connor had beaten the Breast Cancer, but last month she found out the cancer had metastasized to her brain.
On March 23 from 1 to 5 p.m. CB’s Bar and Grill will hold a Euchre Tournament and Basket Raffle for Sarah Connor.
Local community members Kelly Rounsville, Cheryl Quibell, Betsy Kimmel, and Josh Wadams are putting this benefit together.
Rounsville said that it came as a shock to everyone when Sarah was raced to Strong Memorial Hospital for brain surgery on Feb. 8.
“Sarah had been suffering from a headache for a month, and was told that she just needed to take some antibiotics,” he said. “She went to see her Oncologist, and they immediately rushed her to Strong Memorial Hospital to be operated on. The cancer had been found in her brain.”
Rounsville said that Sarah is back at home now, and is in recovery from the surgery.
“I have done Euchre tournaments for the last few years for Dansville’s Relay For Life. You get together, play cards, raise some money, and it all goes for a good cause. I never knew where the money was going, so I decided to focus on local people.”
Rounsville said he and the others have worked closely to make this a successful benefit for Sarah and her family.
“We want to have at least 10 tables set up for the tournament. I will partner everyone up at the event. We want people to have a lot of fun, and help out Sarah Connor the best we can,” he said. “Half of the proceeds from the tournament will go to Sarah and all of the money raised for the basket raffle will go to her as well.”
There will be a couple 50/50 raffles as well that will go to benefit the family. The tournament will have 10 games at 15 minutes each so everyone gets a chance to play.
Rounsville has known the family a long time, and he wants to do all he can for Sarah.
“I hope we get a good turnout for this. Cheryl Quibell has been very helpful in organizing this, and getting all the baskets for the raffles,” he said.
On Feb. 9 Sarah called Rounsville out of the blue to thank him for everything he has done for her.
“Sarah called me out of the blue the day after her surgery. We have been friends a long time. She told me to never change, and that I have always put a smile on her face,” he said. “I was very honored to be one of the first people she talked too. I decided after that to put this benefit together for her.
“This makes me feel good, because all the money we raise will go to help someone I know,” Rounsville continued. “I couldn’t have done any of this without Cheryl Quibell, Betsy Kimmel, and Josh Wadams.”
CB’s Bar and Grill is located at 103 Main Street in Dansville. If you are unable to make it to the event, but you still want to help, the family can accept money or gift card donations to P.O. Box 743 Dansville NY 14437.
