Kreiley named Swimmer of the Meet

DANSVILLE — On Saturday, Feb. 16 the Dansville Mustangs Boys Swim Team traveled to Webster for the 2019 Section V, Class C Championships.

The Mustangs are made up of a very young team and for most of the meet sat in fourth place behind Avon, Way-Co and Bath. After some strong swims in the Backstroke, breaststroke and 400 Free Relay, the boys leaped over Bath and secured the 3rd place spot.

The team was led by juniors Aidan Kreiley and Mason Wolcott. Kreiley won his first 500 Freestyle Championship with a time of 4:47.81. With the pace that Kreiley set he lapped all but two of his competitors. Kreiley also walked away with the 100 Breaststroke Championship. In winning the breaststroke Aidan broke his own meet record that he set a year ago with a new time of 57.04. Aidan currently sits 3rd in the NYS 100 breaststroke rankings.

At the end of the meet the coaches voted Aidan as Class C Swimmer of the Meet. This is the second year in a row that Kreiley has won the award. Aidan now has won five Section V championships in the last three years. Kreiley will head to Long Island to compete in the NYS Championships on March 1-2. This will be Aidan’s 3rd trip to the state meet where a year ago he finished 4th in the 100 breaststroke.

Mason Wolcott had a huge day as he took 3rd place in both the 200 IM with a time of 2:13.68 and the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:04.32. In both events Mason swam to new personal best times. Wolcott improved his position in both events scoring those precious points to help the young Mustangs team take 3rd place.

Eighth grader Zack Kreiley, Sophomore Tim O’Toole, Aidan Kreiley and Mason Wolcott made up the 200 Medley Relay team that took 2nd place and the 400 Free Relay team that placed 3rd.
