ROCHESTER — A Western New Yorker has joined the ensemble skaters of Disney on Ice for this year’s production at the Blue Cross Arena.

Morgan Johnson, 20, of Jamestown is the newest member of the industry where dreams come true.

Disney on Ice: Worlds of Enchantment will perform in the Blue Cross Arena from Jan. 17 to Jan. 21.

Johnson has been skating since she was four years old, and it has been her dream to be in Disney on Ice.

“I love the performing aspect of ice skating,” she said. “I thought I would give this a shot, and I hope I get to be in Disney on Ice for years to come. This really is a dream come true for me.”

As of September 2018, Johnson has been traveling all over the country performing for Disney on Ice. She has enjoyed the opportunity to be part of something magical.

“We can work our way up to being a principal character in the show, but right now I am an ensemble skater. It means I get to be part of all the performances,” she said. “We have skaters who have done this for years, and they are very nice to the new people. Many of them have became my best friends, and they give me a lot of great advice.”

Johnson sent in an audition tape to Disney on Ice, and was able to do a live audition in Buffalo. The performers come from all over the world, so there’s a chance to learn about other cultures as well.

When they are performing in certain places they also get to go on side trips. Johnson really enjoys being able to explore all the places the performers are stationed.

Johnson said she has had a lot of support from her family and friends who have come to some of the shows.

Johnson is looking forward to the Buffalo and Rochester shows. She is currently in college for a double major in Mathematics and Communications at University of Buffalo. As she is on the road with Disney on Ice, Johnson is taking online classes to keep up with her studies.

“I am really excited about the Buffalo show, since all of my college friends will be there to see it,” she said. “My family came to my first show down South. I plan on sticking with Disney on Ice for as long as I can, but I also want to finish college.”

Johnson would love to play a principal character in Frozen. She has been a huge fan of Elsa in particular.

Right now Johnson has done about 104 shows with Disney on Ice in the five months she has been part of the magical team.

“I would tell anyone who wants to be part of this production to go for it. Don’t be afraid to go for your dreams,” she said. “It will be a lot of work, but don’t quit on yourself. You need to have the dedication to make your dreams come true. I am really so proud of the support system I have.”

Johnson said that she has gotten a lot of life experiences from this production.

“We have all become a family in Disney on Ice,” she said. “We learn a lot from each other about different cultures. We enjoy spending the holidays together. For New Years we all went into New York City. It was so much fun for us all to be together.”
