DANSVILLE — Dansville Rotary Club has held a Red Kettle Drive at Tops Friendly Markets for years.
Dansville Rotarian Jenni Leuzzi has put her heart and soul into this community project for three of those years. She always manages to fill every spot on the drive for holiday giving.
Dansville Rotarian Jon Shay told Genesee Country Express how he feels about this special project.
“Jenni has done the Red Kettle Drive for years,” he said. “She manages to fill every slot for five weeks, seven days a week, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Class of 2020 has filled some of the time slots this year. They have been a great help.
“The biggest part is that every night one of us needs to count all the money from the kettle, and make sure it all gets deposited into the bank the next day,” Shay added. "Depending on how well they did that day it could take over an hour after the shift is done.”
Shay mentioned how grateful he is that Tops Friendly Markets allows them to do this drive inside the store.
“We are very fortunate to be able to do this inside. There are others who do this outside in the community,” he said. “All of the money goes to the Salvation Army in town. It all stays local for the most part. Our Dansville Red Kettle Drive is very successful every year.”
Many are repeat ringers who come every year to help fill the time slots, and some bring their family or friends along.
