LIVONIA — A Livonia teen was arrested after his car ended up in a ditch on Groveland Road.
John Arend Jr., 19 is charged with felony driving while intoxicated and first-degree aggravated unlicensed of a vehicle.
Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty said "On Nov. 25 at approximately 6:38 am, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Lakeville – Groveland Road in the Town of Geneseo to check on a vehicle that was in the ditch along the side of the road. Sheriff’s Deputies found the operator of the vehicle to be Arend Jr. The Deputy Sheriffs also suspected that Arend was under the influence of alcohol and conducted a DWI investigation which included standardized field sobriety tests. At the conclusion of the roadside investigation, Arend was placed into custody for DWI."
Arend was then transported to the Sheriff’s Office Central Booking where he submitted to a breathalyzer test. The results of the test revealed that Arend’s blood alcohol content (BAC) was .13 percent.
A driver’s license check also showed that Arend was operating with his driving privileges suspended a total of six times on five dates.
Arend was the turned over to Central Booking Deputies at the Livingston County Jail for processing and pre-arraignment detention. The District Attorney’s Office was contacted in regards to bail due to the felony level charge and it was recommended that the Judge hold Arend on $3,000 cash bail or $6,000 bond.
Arend was later arraigned at the Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Part (LC-CAP) at the Livingston County Jail before Town of York Justice Daniel Koch. The
Judge did remand Arend to the custody of the Sheriff on $2,000 cash bail or $4,000 property bond.
Investigating the incident for the Sheriff’s Office were Sergeant Joseph Breu, Deputy Kevin Barrett, and Deputy Dave Richardson (Forensic Identification Unit).
