DANSVILLE — These are the good old days!
Save the date, and join us on Dec. 1, as Dansville celebrates the joy of the Christmas season. Winter in the Village has been making memories for over 20 years. When the festival began, the intent was to recreate the hustle and bustle of old-fashioned Christmas shopping on Main Street. It’s fun to wander down the street and bump into friends and neighbors enjoying the evening, looking at the lights, and listening to music. This year’s theme is Traditional Christmas, which will be interpreted in Main Street window decorations.
This festive day begins with the Jingle Bell 5K and Pancake Breakfast at the Dansville Community Center on West Avenue. Write a letter to Santa and drop it off at the Dansville Post Office in the morning, then visit the craft show at the Town Hall. Genesee Community College also hosts a craft/vendor show as well as activities for children all day. Santa will be at Dansville ArtWorks in the afternoon, and the Fire Truck and Ambulance Parade will take Santa to the gazebo in Church Park, where he will light 50 Christmas trees in the Lion’s Club Annual Fantasy of Lights while the EBH choir sings. Saint Peter’s Episcopal Church hosts a Living Nativity, complete with animals; it’s truly a sight to behold.
Following the tree lighting, Main Street takes center stage with a traditional street fair. This year’s new light show continues throughout the evening on the Town Hall and at least half of the light poles in downtown. Some delicious holiday goodies like Connie’s Waffles will be available, and look for illuminated ice sculptures while strolling on Main Street. A free horse and wagon ride starts at Star Theatre.
Dansville Public Library offers make and take holiday crafts for kids; be sure to see their new light display. Enjoy music at Genesee Valley Federal Credit Union during the evening. Visit the annual open house at Clara Barton Chapter #1 American Red Cross, complete with holiday decorations and festive refreshments. If you’re “old” enough, join the Wine & Spirits Walk, which includes a commemorative glass. Santa Hat Society holds their annual cash raffle in front of Dogwood Trading Company. Local eateries offer traditional fare.
The true magic of Winter in the Village is found in the people who do their special part all day and evening to contribute to this unique seasonal event; these include many service clubs, youth organizations, churches, businesses, our school district and community members.
