DANSVILLE — A local floral shop blossomed into so much more over the years.

Rodney Johnson, Dogwood Floral Co. and Tux Shop owner, had his heart set on opening a floral shop in Dansville in 2005.

“Dansville needed a floral shop, and I was the only one on Main Street,” he said. “We offer gifts and rent out tuxedos too.”

Johnson is community driven with his charity to the Wayland American Legion Fashion Show every year, helping with weddings and funerals, and giving those young seniors a fancy tux for the big night.

On top of all of this he also helps Star Theater with the promotion of movie money he sells. Johnson makes beautiful wreaths for Winter in the Village as well. He is on the list for the wine tour on Dec. 1 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

“I make about 200 wreaths that the Dansville American Legion puts on veterans graves for Christmas,” he said. “I got interested in making wreaths since 1981. I always sell out my wreaths for Winter in the Village.”

Dogwood Floral Co. and Tux Shop moved to 142 Main Street four years ago. Before that this spot belonged to Sylor’s Photo and Frames.

“We had to bring in a cooler for the flowers, and did some work out back for the wreaths and tuxedos,” Johnson said. “This is a family run business. My daughter helps out with deliveries, and my wife helps me out with the store.”

There are Lions Club tickets being sold for a quilt raffle at the store until March. All proceeds go to Mercy Flight.

Dogwood Floral Co and Tux Shop is located at 142 Main Street. They are open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information visit https://www.dogwoodfloralcompany.com
