As all things must come to an end, so shall the Yates Summer Concerts on the Courthouse Lawn. On Wednesday Aug.15, the closing concert for the season will be the Southern Tier All Star Jazz Band. The concert is free and begins at 6:30 p.m. The venue is located at Court and Main Streets and this concert is being co-sponsored by the Loyal Order of the Moose 2030.
This grand finale band is a 16-piece jazz orchestra from upstate New York which features a variety of music from big band hits of the 30s to Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Glen Miller, Stan Kenton, Count Basie, and Duke Ellington. They will also bring you up-to-date with modern day tunes. Of course, featured in this band is one of Penn Yan’s home-town favorite musicians, Jeff Stempien.
Bring you own lawn chair or blanket, and in case of inclement weather, the concert will be held indoors at the neighboring Baptist Church. The Penn Yan Kiwanis Club will provide refreshments during intermission. Children’s time staffed by the Penn Yan Public Library will be at the rear of the courtyard from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and is. Enjoy a light meal of hamburger or hot dogs before the concert begins offered by the First Baptist Church.
