DANSVILLE — A Dansville man is being held without bail as he faces drug charges.

Nathan Mountzouros, 35, of Dansville is charged with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, Driving While Ability Impaired by a Combination of Drugs, Criminal Possession of a Hypodermic Instrument, and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana.

Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty said. "On June 28 Deputy Shawn Whitford was assigned to the Sheriff’s Office Operation Safe Interstate initiative when he stopped a vehicle on Interstate 390 for a violation of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law. The Deputy Sheriff identified the driver as  Mountzouros and suspected that the driver was under the influence of drugs. The Deputy Sheriff then conducted a roadside DWAI Drug investigation which included standardized field sobriety tests. It was also found that Mountzouros was in possession of a hypodermic needle, as well as marijuana."

The DWAI charges were both felonies as Mountzouros had previous DWI related convictions within the past 10 years.

Mountzouros was then taken to the Sheriff's Office Headquarters in Geneseo where Deputy Matthew Thomas, who is a Certified Drug Recognition Expert (DRE), conducted a drug evaluation. It was Deputy Thomas's expert opinion that Mountzouros was under the influence of a central nervous system depressant and cannabis and could not operate a vehicle in a safe manner.

Mountzouros was turned over to Central Booking Deputies at the Livingston County Jail for processing and pre-arraignment detention. The District Attorney's Office was contacted in regards to bail due to the felony level convictions. It was advised that Mountzouros should be held without the chance of bail due to having prior felony convictions.

Mountzouros was later arraigned at the Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Part at the Livingston County Jail (LCCAP) before Nunda Town Justice James Mann. The Judge did remand Mountzouros to the custody of the Sheriff being held without the chance of bail. He will be held until further court proceedings.
