WAYLAND — A Wayland man was arrested for being in possession of heroin.


Mackenzie Smith, 30, of Wayland is charged with seventh-degree Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance  and Criminal Possession of a Hypodermic Instrument.



Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty said. "On March 18 Deputy Connor Sanford stopped a vehicle on Lave Ave in the Village of Lima for a violation of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law. The roadside investigation by the Deputy Sheriff revealed that the driver, Smith, had heroin in his pocket and also attempted to conceal additional heroin on his person. Smith was also found to be in possession of a hypodermic needle."

Smith was turned over to Central Booking Deputies at the Livingston County Jail for processing and pre-arraignment detention.


Smith was later arraigned in the Town of Lima Court before Judge Luhowy. The Judge did remand Smith to the custody of the Sheriff on $100 cash bail.
