Mackenzie R. Smith allegedly possessed heroin and hypodermic needle

LIMA — Livingston County Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty reports the arrest of a Wayland man for drug related charges after a traffic stop.

On March 18, Deputy Connor Sanford stopped a vehicle on Lave Ave in the Village of Lima for a violation of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law.

The roadside investigation by the Deputy Sheriff revealed that the driver, 30-year-old Mackenzie R. Smith, had heroin in his pocket and also attempted to conceal additional heroin on his person. Smith was also found to be in possession of a hypodermic needle.

Smith was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree and Criminal Possession of a Hypodermic Instrument.

Smith was turned over to Central Booking Deputies at the Livingston County Jail for processing and pre-arraignment detention.

Smith was later arraigned in the Town of Lima Court before Judge Luhowy. The Judge remanded Smith to the custody of the Sheriff on $100 cash bail.
