WAYLAND — The Wayland Free Library is doing something new for our troops this holiday season.

The “Support our Troops” program goes from Nov. 28 until Dec. 7 at the Wayland Free Library. It will be set up at the Wayland Historical Society for Christmas in Wayland on Dec. 7 from 4 to 8:30 p.m.

Right now there is a writing station and ornament station set up at the library for those who wish to make an ornament or write a note to our local troops.

Wayland Library Clerk Brenda Shields said this is something Wayland Library Director Jen Farr decided to do this year for those on active duty. These items will be sent with the Wayland American Legion care packages.

Shields said that people can come in and make a reindeer or Santa hat ornament to send to the troops. If they aren’t crafty they can write a nice letter or note to the troops instead.

“We wanted to give the community a way of doing something nice for the troops,” she said. “The community can come in and make an ornament for the troops overseas.”

This is a nice way of letting them know we are thinking of them this holiday.

If you are interested in being a part of this new program, and sending holiday cheer to our loved ones fighting for our freedom you can stop in during library business hours.

Wayland Free Library is open Monday through Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday and Friday 10 a.m. to 5p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Sunday closed. It is located at 101 W. Naples Street.

Let them know how much we appreciate what they do, and that we are thinking of them this holiday season.

All the ornaments will be taken to the Wayland American Legion, and will be sent with items they have collected for the troops.
