play safe! be safe! is a workshop presented by BIC and Fireproof Children. The Fireproof Children team has been working to reduce children’s fire play and fire setting for more than 25 years, beginning with an effort to reduce the rate of juvenile fire setting in your city of Rochester, NY. Working with the Rochester Fire Department’s juvenile fire setter program, police, child protective services, and mental health organizations, they reduced repeat fire setting by 74% over five years. In 1992, Fireproof Children began working with BIC Corporation and other child development specialists to create the award-winning play safe! be safe! workshop. The program teaches those who care for young kids - such as preschool educators - about the unique set of challenges that arise when talking to young children about fire safety.
