Authorities say body of 6-year-old Preston Giangregorio found Sunday
CASTILE — Authorities say two young Brockport brothers who fell over the Lower Falls at Letchworth State Park in a fatal accident Saturday night were with family members in an unauthorized area of the park.
A New York State Police underwater search team recovered the body of 6-year-old Preston Giangregorio on Sunday afternoon. The search continued Monday for Preston's 9-year-old brother Dylan Giangregorio. As of 4:30 p.m., Monday, Dylan has not been found and is presumed drowned. Authorities said search efforts would start back up Tuesday.
Two men and three girls were rescued Saturday evening after going over the 70-foot-high Lower Falls on the Genesee River with the Giangregorio brothers. The people rescued were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries classified from serious to minor.
State park police Maj. David Page says the family had left a designated trail and entered the water above the Lower Falls, the last of three falls in a scenic gorge with cliffs reaching 600 feet. Swimming in the river is prohibited throughout the park.
Areas near and around the Lower Falls at Letchworth State Park are closed at this time.
