NUNDA — Authorities are investigating after after a teacher at Keshequa Central School fell around 100 feet to his death Friday in a balloon accident near Picket Line Road.
Geneses-Based State Police today reported that at around 9:10 p.m. Friday, they investigated a fatal hot-air balloon accident. State Police said the hot air balloon handler, Ryan Almeter, 34, was restraining the basket, allowing passengers to get off, when wind caused the balloon to take flight. The ballon reached approximately 100 feet, when Almeter let go of the basket and fell to his death.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) were contacted by State Police. The investigation is continuing.
