WAYLAND — It seems unique to have a female barber, but it is actually becoming more common.
Shannon’s Family Barber opened its new store on Tuesday at 8 a.m. on Main Street.
Shannon Logsdon has been a barber for 10 years now, and has many loyal customers. She said men are not being barber’s so much these days, so women are stepping up.
“I chose the new place for the good location,” she said. “I really enjoy doing it.”
There were a few regulars who came to her grand opening.
Carmen Wolfe will be helping out at the shop, and will be cutting women and children’s hair.
“She does more women cuts, perms, wax, and color,” Logsdon said. “It was just me at the old place, and I only do men cuts, but we are going to mix it up now.”
Wolfe will eventually get the back room to herself, and it will become a full salon.
“We will eventually do more,” Logsdon said. “Right now we have a shampoo and color room.”
The new building took about a month to get situated.
“Everything in here is new,” Logsdon said. “I went from having a very small place to all this space, and I really like it.”
Wolfe will take appointments and some walk-ins if she is there, and Logsdon takes walk-ins.
The shop is located next to the Bryant House on Main Street. They can be reached at 585-728-5515. Hours of operation are Tuesday through Friday 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. until noon.
