It was an outstanding effort put forth by the Wayland juniors on Sunday as they gave Wellsville all they could handle in a 26-20 setback at Victory Park in a close one. Junior Eagles coach Shawn Harvey stated, "I want to give a shout out to all of our kids who gave it everything they had in this one. John Whitmer and Ashton Schneider really assumed the leadership role in this one. Finally my thanks to Wellsville who also played an outstanding game and were good sportsmen as well."Wayland Jr. Eagles highights included Ashton Schnieder who ran for 110 yards on the ground with a PAT and three tackles, Ben Wilcox had four tackles. a forced fumble and had several quarterback sacks. Evan Sedore and Tony Schirmer each had four tackles. Joe O'Neil added eight stops, Ricky VanCuren had three tackles and Jesse Shanley had five tackles for losses and added four more stops in the game. Wayland visits Hornell in their final game of the fall of 2015.
SENIORS This senior match-up was a much closer contest than the final score might indicate. On Sunday afternoon at Victory Park the Wayland seniors and Wellsville were in a tight battle as the Lions held an 8-0 lead at the half. As things progressed in the secnd half, the Lions took control of the game and went on to win it by a 36-6 margin. Eagles coach Keith Barnard noted the Wayland highlights, Collin Mehlenbacher rushed for 60 yards including a 45-yard touchdown and also made eight tackles, Ben Teed had 80 yards on the ground with eight tackles. Nick Belanger compiled 30 yards rushing and also had an interception on the defensive side, Peter Cicero had 30 yards, Dominic Swain had three tackles and Ashton McMahon ran for 55 yards in the game for Wayland. The Golden Eagles finish their season with a trip to Hornell on Sunday.
The Wayland Flag Football team tangled with Wellsville at Victory Park in Community Youth Football League Play. In the game the Eagles turned in some nice performances against the Lions. Coach Josh Towner reported the highlights, Jacob Ladd had five yards rushing and five tackles. Cole Johnson had one tackle, Garrett Johnson had 11 yards rushing and three stops, Ashton Williams ran for four yards, Collin VanHorn led the team in rushing with 90 yards on the ground from the quarterback spot. Ethan Smith rushed for 67 yards including a 45-yard touchdown and also had a pair of tackles. Kameran Lantz rushed for three yards and made four tackles. Skylar Sabins ran for two yards, while Cole Hanaggi had 30 yards rushing. Wayland closes out the season in Hornell this Sunday.
The Dansville Flag Football team was at home for a battle with the York Jr. Golden Knights on Sunday as the season begins to wind down. In very competitive action for the black team, Camden Black carried the ball seven times and ran for three touchdowns and also had a pass deflection and four tackles. Parker Black ran the ball a couple of times and also had pass reception and Camden Foster ran the ball a couple of times and had a pair of tackles. For the red team, Brady Henchen ran for four touchdowns, ran for four first downs, had three tackles and a pass reception. Chance Dean-Diaz made five stops, quarterback Brody Sick directed the offense well and had a pass completion. Sawyer Lohrmann made three tackles, Quinn Dixon had one tackle and Lucas Mosko had a pair of tackles. Dansville closes out the season on Sunday afternoon hosting Wellsville.
Dansville Seniors With one week remaining in the Community Youth Football League's regular season, the Dansville Seniors team coached by Mel Mensinger battled York at Babcock Park only to come up short in a 14-0 affair. Dansville played well defensively. One of the keys that every coach will tell you is that defense will keep you in the ballgame. That's exactly how the game would pan out. Mustang highlights for the game were basically on the defensive side of the ball as Evan Prounto led the way with eight tackles, Alex Schuster made five, with four each were Holdyn Freeman, Taylor Wolfanger, Calab Rigdon, and Ben Sick. With three stops apiece were Jacquan Price, Jacob Main and Dylan Greene. Maddox Olsen had three tackles and a pass deflection. Ethan Destefano, Billy Delaney, Bryce Applin and Collin Gray each had two tackles. Devin Douglas addes two tackles and a pass deflection. Also with one tackle each was Dustin Dudek, Noah Sauerbier, Eli Swyers and Darin Price. Dansville travels to Hornell for the regular season's finale this Sunday.
